We see lots of awesome Minecraft builds, but normally they are single buildings or objects. That
wasn?t good enough for Christopher Mitchell. He wanted to recreate the whole of Manhattan, New York City, in Minecraft blocks. And he wasn?t going to do it the normal way, either. He was going to get a computer to do it for him.
Christopher Mitchell is a computer scientist, and he wrote a program that would look at Google Maps and turn them into Minecraft worlds. It?s a super complicated system, and it takes the supercomputer that creates it several hours to complete, but it really works. Check out these pictures of his world, which is an exact replica of the Manhattan area of New York. To see it all, have a look at the full map.
